Preparing For an Emergency Move

There are times when unexpected emergency situations such as a severe fire or flooding may require that we make an emergency move. For situations such as these, here are some helpful tips that can help you prepare and make the most of the situation.

The pressure of the situation is usually overwhelming and a lot of people will get confused and rush to carry random unnecessary items. Even in these dire circumstances, taking a few minutes to make a quick plan always helps one make the most of emergency moves. Your aim is to get as many items out as you can with the smallest number of trips needed.

What to take in a crisis?

Even in severe dire circumstances, taking a few minutes to make a quick plan always helps one make the most of an emergency move. Your aim is to get as many of your essential items out as quickly as possible. Take boxes and begin to fill them with small items that are easy to grab a hold of. Do not over load items so that the boxes do not get too heavy or give way. As you stack items, begin to prioritize what is most important and take extra effort to get these to safety first.

We offer much more than just house removals:

What items should you move first?

Think about what you really need to take with you? What can you live with and without! Take boxes and begin to fill them with small items that are easy to grab a hold of. Do not over load items so that the boxes get too heavy or give way. As you stack items, begin to prioritize what are the most important items and take extra effort to get these to safety first.
Random stacking and packing items together can damage or scratch them. If possible get beddings and sheets to a safe location and use them to wrap up precious items before stacking them into moving containers or boxes.

Areas of coverage

Emergency moves are done on a 24 hour basis if necessary! This is done within the Manchester, Yorkshire and Humberside regions.

Do you need an emergency move?

If an emergency move is warranted by a flood, fire etc, such as a sewer backup or basement flood, you should take quick steps to raise pieces of furniture that you cannot move outside. Strong foam or wood or anything else that can be sacrificed should be used to raise furniture to safe levels above the water level. Then you can easily stack other items that are in danger on the raised furniture to protect them. Our estate agents links page can also assist you before and after your emergency move.

What to do in an emergency?

Emergency moves can be quite stressful and confusing. However, do not forget that the most important things you can save include yourself and the other people exposed to danger. Do not take needless risks to try to save personal belongings and household effects. As the problem begins to mount, make sure that you take time to call the necessary services or friends to help. Remember we could well be your 4th emergency service!
